MetaTalk is very simple to use. Here an overview of the main functions:
Keyboard
The stage collects the last 30 entries and plays them when tapped
Use the lock-button to stay on a page until you tap the Home-key or one of the lightblue link-buttons. This is useful when you have selected a setting (see below) that takes you back to the home-screen after each tap.
The voice settings offer a choice of female and male voices and you can set the word rate and pitch of each voice.

Settings
The MetaTalk settings can be found outside of MetaTalk within the system settings.
The toggle "After each key stroke..." decides whether to go back the home screen after each tap or to stay on a page until you tap the home button.
"Editing" turns the edit-features for the keys and the layout ON or OFF. The "Sound" switch turns various clicking sounds on the keyboard ON or OFF. Finally, "Talk while typing" allows you to chose whether a word is spoken immediately after each key tap or only when you tap on the stage to speak a full phrase.

Key-Editor
When in Edit-Mode (see above), double-tap a key to open the key-editor. Here you can choose among standard and your custom texts and images. Activate your custom items by tapping the "custom" switch. The original MetaTalk items will remain and can be reactivated by tapping the "standard" switch. Add your own images from the photo library or the iPad camera (iPad2 only) - double-tap the custom image to do so.
Use the switch on top to turn a key ON or OFF. This makes the key invisible to the user and is great for hiding some keys or complete sections that you might want to introduce at a later stage only.

Layout-Editor
The layout-editor has four areas: the keyboard which is currently edited, the library on the right, an area for special keys, and a parking lot for keys, which can also be deleted from here by tapping the trash icon.
Use drag-and-drop to rearrange keys, add keys from the library, or delete keys in order to make room for new ones. To activate drag-and-drop press and hold a key for a brief time before moving it.

Action-Editor
Double-tap a key in the layout-editor to define a key's action:
When you use one of the link-functions (goto or talkAndGo) another selector box appears where you can set the destination of the key.
